hmm tough question. well,to be honest only you can decide whether to give him another chance. i can't help you there, sorry. you know him better than i. but i am in sorta the same situation (you so don't wanna hear it. i know) and i can tell you that from what you've written, he seems like a pretty sweet guy. or a smoothtalker ( you know, the ones who'll say anything to get anything they can.) but again, only you can be the judge of that. :-) mainly, follow you heart. if you trust him, then go for it. and as for the christmas thing, ask him. never goes wrong. and if you dont wanna do that, then make him a little card or a book out of construction paper with a bunch of inside jokes and photos.
